Left Unsaid..

"I say this for the last time, everything has to be just right!" Sarah warned the caterers. "It is a big day and nothing shall ruin it!" James's wedding grew nearer and being his best bud, Sarah was ready to die to make it perfect.

Sarah knew James since the very first days of their school. Her first memory of him went a long way back in time, to those of the kindergarten days. Like two peas in a pod, Sarah and James grew up playing hide and seek and bonding like nothing could ever part them.
Time flew by and they started college, though not together for the very first time. James went to the theatres and Sarah chose the management stream. "Why, parting ways must not mean losing friendship," they consoled each other and went on with their lives. Sarah got busy with studies and James too, with his lessons.

They often talked about their daydreams, their deepest desires. "Wealth can be gained anyhow. Finding my soul-mate will always be more important to me.. Don't you agree?" James asked Sarah one day.
"Hogwash," She rolled her eyes. "I choose not to let my heart take over my brain, so I think otherwise." she pondered thoughtfully. "Work and a good position will always remain my priority." she said.

"Not again, Sarah, NO! When will you ever learn? Your work and earnings just cannot make you complete!" James insisted. "You will find contentment only when, after a long, tiring
day; you find your head resting peacefully on someone's shoulders.. Don't you realize, Love IS the key to a content soul.." he moaned. "Oh Sarah, when.. when will you ever learn?"

But their views never changed and the days passed by.

"You will never believe, I proposed to her today!" Chirped an excited James over the telephone, letting his nearest gal-pal know about his newly found love. "That's brilliant, tell me everything!  I just can't wait to see her.." Sarah beamed. She couldn't be happier to see her closest mate living his dream.

Days passed by and one day James met Sarah to confirm the wedding date. "Its all little unnerving.. will everything go well? How am I going to manage all the arrangements? The food, the invitations, the vows.. How indeed, how?" he whispered in an anxious voice. "Why do you worry when I'm always there to help?" soothed Sarah. She meant it. Her oldest mate had found his reason to be.  How, after all, could she not strive to help?

The wedding day came. Everything was perfect while James stood at the altar, watching the love of his life walking down the aisle.

Applauding with their family, Sarah watched them take the vows.
A silent tear dropped down her cheek, as she watched them kiss.
"..Love HAS always been the key," she wept to herself. "Why, James...why... why didn't you ever learn?..."
